Los
Angeles City of Angels

The city that invented the spectacle. Forty million people in its orbit, the most diverse football culture in America, and a sunset over the Pacific that makes everything feel like the opening scene of something unforgettable.

SoFi Stadium — The Most Expensive Stadium Ever Built

SoFi Stadium
Inglewood, California · Home of LA Rams & LA Chargers · US Opening Match Host

Built for $5.5 billion and opened in 2020, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood is the most expensive sports venue ever constructed. Its spectacular translucent ethylene tetrafluoroethylene roof allows natural light while protecting fans from the elements. Located just 5 kilometres from LAX airport, it sits at the epicentre of a new entertainment complex that is redefining sports infrastructure in America. At World Cup 2026, it will host the moment when the United States plays their opening match before the loudest crowd in American football history.

Los Angeles is the world capital of entertainment, reinvention and ambition — a city of 13 million in the greater metropolitan area that has spent a century perfecting the art of the grand gesture. When the World Cup arrives in LA, it does not arrive in a city that needs to impress anyone. It arrives in the city that invented the concept of impression itself.

And yet Los Angeles surprises everyone. Beneath the Hollywood clichés lies one of the most genuinely diverse, creative and football-passionate cities in North America. LA Galaxy's MLS attendance records, the enormous Latino football culture of East LA, and a new generation of American soccer fans who grew up watching the Premier League and La Liga — Los Angeles brings a football sophistication that will electrify SoFi Stadium on every single match day.

"Los Angeles does not watch sport. It stages it. When the US opens their World Cup campaign at SoFi Stadium before 70,000 people under a California sunset, it will be one of the great sporting spectacles of the 21st century."

Why LA Is Unlike Any Other World Cup City

Los Angeles is not one city — it is a constellation of communities, cultures and landscapes that would each be a destination in their own right. These are the four things that define the LA experience for every World Cup visitor.

🎬
Hollywood

The global capital of film and television. The Hollywood Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre, Griffith Observatory, the Hollywood sign — these are not tourist traps, they are the physical evidence of a century of storytelling that shaped the world's imagination. For football fans visiting America for the first time, Hollywood is obligatory.

🌴
The Beach Cities

Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach, Malibu — 75 miles of Pacific coastline that define the California ideal. The Venice Beach Boardwalk, the Santa Monica Pier and the Malibu coast drive are among the most iconic stretches of American geography. June weather: 22–28°C, clear skies, Pacific breeze. Perfect.

Football Culture

LA has the largest Latino population of any US city — and Latino football culture here is as deep and passionate as anywhere in Mexico or Central America. East LA, Koreatown, the San Gabriel Valley — every neighbourhood brings its own football identity. The World Cup does not arrive in a neutral city. It arrives in a city that has been waiting for this.

🍜
Food Without Borders

Los Angeles has the best Mexican food outside Mexico, the finest Korean BBQ outside Seoul, extraordinary Japanese ramen, Vietnamese pho in the San Gabriel Valley and a taco truck on every corner that outperforms most restaurants in any other American city. The food scene here is the direct product of the most multicultural major city in the USA.

Arriving in Los Angeles

LAX is one of the busiest airports in the world and the primary gateway for trans-Pacific and Latin American routes to North America. Direct international flights connect Los Angeles to virtually every major city on Earth. The airport's proximity to SoFi Stadium — just 5 kilometres — is one of the great logistical advantages of attending a match in Inglewood.

Getting to SoFi Stadium

The Metro C Line (Green) connects directly to SoFi Stadium/Intuit Dome station — one of the great public transport wins of any World Cup venue in the USA. From downtown LA, take the Metro A Line (Blue) to the C Line connection at Rosa Parks Station. From LAX, the new Automated People Mover connects to the Metro in minutes. On match days, Uber and Lyft will surge significantly — the Metro is strongly recommended.

Getting Around LA

Los Angeles is famously car-dependent but its Metro system has improved dramatically and covers most World Cup visitor needs. The A, B, D and E Lines connect major attractions. Uber and Lyft operate city-wide. Renting a car opens up Malibu, the canyons and the greater LA region — but factor in traffic. The 405 freeway in rush hour is a World Cup experience in itself.

Best Areas for World Cup Fans

Los Angeles is vast — 503 square miles of city. These four neighbourhoods give World Cup visitors the best combination of atmosphere, access to the stadium and the authentic LA experience.

Downtown LA

The most connected neighbourhood for World Cup visitors — Metro access to SoFi, Grand Central Market, the Broad Museum and DTLA's booming food and arts scene. Excellent hotel selection at every price point. Fan zones here will be electric.

Santa Monica

Beach, Third Street Promenade, the pier and some of the best restaurants on the Westside. A little further from the stadium but connected by the Metro E Line. Worth it for the Pacific Ocean in your morning view.

Hollywood / Los Feliz

Stay in the city's cultural heart — walking distance to the Walk of Fame, Griffith Park and some of LA's most beloved independent restaurants and bars. Great value compared to beach hotels. Metro B Line to downtown in 20 minutes.

Inglewood / SoFi Area

Stay closest to the action — the Hollywood Park entertainment complex surrounds SoFi Stadium with hotels, restaurants and entertainment. Walk to every match. The new Clippers arena and performance venues make this the most lively match-day zone in LA.

Los Angeles Must-Sees

Los Angeles rewards every visitor who looks beyond the obvious. Between matches, these are the experiences that define what this extraordinary, maddening, beautiful city truly is.

Griffith Observatory & The Hollywood Sign

Perched on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, the Griffith Observatory offers the finest panoramic views of Los Angeles — the basin, the Pacific, the Hollywood sign and on a clear day, Catalina Island 35 miles offshore. Arrive at sunset. Watch the city light up below you. This is the image of LA that stays with you forever. The hike to the Hollywood sign trail head is 45 minutes from the Observatory.

Venice Beach Boardwalk

The Venice Beach Boardwalk is where Los Angeles puts all of its contradictions on display simultaneously. Street performers, bodybuilders at Muscle Beach, skateboarders at the world-famous skate park, street vendors, artists and fortune tellers — all within 300 metres of the Pacific Ocean. It is loud, chaotic, colourful and completely, uniquely Los Angeles. Walk it at noon and stay for the sunset.

The Getty Center

Perched on a hilltop above Brentwood, the Getty Center is one of the great art museums of the world — and admission is completely free (parking fee only). The architecture by Richard Meier, the garden by Robert Irwin, the views of the city and the Pacific, and a collection ranging from Van Gogh to Rembrandt. This is a half-day commitment and worth every minute. Pre-book a parking reservation or take the free tram from Sepulveda Boulevard.

The Grand Central Market

Open since 1917, Grand Central Market in downtown LA is a century-old food hall that has reinvented itself as one of the most exciting eating destinations in America. Egg Slut breakfast sandwiches, Tacos Tumbras a Tomas, Wexler's deli pastrami, fresh fruit stands, Vietnamese bánh mì — all under one roof in a building that has fed Los Angeles across generations. A 10-minute Metro ride from SoFi Stadium area hotels.

A Taco Truck at 2am

This is not optional. After a match, after a night in East LA or Boyle Heights, find a taco truck — they operate from dusk to dawn throughout the city — and eat three tacos al pastor standing on the sidewalk. Carne asada. Carnitas. Topped with fresh cilantro, onion and salsa verde. This is the true Los Angeles dining experience and it costs four dollars.

Malibu & Pacific Coast Highway

Rent a car for one day and drive the Pacific Coast Highway north from Santa Monica through Malibu to Point Mugu. The ocean on your left, the Santa Monica Mountains on your right. Stop at El Matador State Beach — rocky sea stacks and turquoise water that look like they belong in Portugal. Stop at Neptune's Net for fried seafood on the highway. Turn around at sunset. This drive is why people move to Los Angeles.

Weather in June–JulyNear perfect — 22–28°C / 72–82°F. LA in June is the city at its finest. Occasional morning marine layer (coastal fog that burns off by noon). SoFi Stadium's roof provides shade and protection. Pack light clothes and sunscreen.
